What is a Personal Trainer and how will personal training help you?

A personal trainer should be educated and certified through a reputable fitness organization such as myself through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). As a personal trainer my job is to assess your fitness level, set up a training program for you and keep you motivated. I will push you past your comfort level if that's what you want. I also provide:

  • guidance and motivation on reaching your goals
  • education about strength training, cardio, nutrition, and dietary supplements.

  • What is a Personal Training Session Like?

    Each session lasts about an hour, sometimes longer depending on the situation. The first meeting is always devoted to assessing fitness level, body composition index, exercise and health history and goals, I provide this initial assessment no charge. You will be weighed, have your body fat tested and answer specific questions about your goals. After that, depending on what your specific goals are, you'll spend most of your time on strength training and cardio.

    What to Look for In Me as Your Personal Trainer

  • Education: A personal trainer should be certified through a reputable fitness organization such as the one I'm certified by, The National Academy of Sports Medicine.
  • CPR: As your trainer you can rest assured that I have an updated certification in CPR and first aid.
  • Experience: As your trainer you can count on that I have several years of experience, especially in relation to your goals (I've dealt with them all!). For example, if you're a bodybuilder, you want someone like me who is knowledgeable in that area.
  • Specifics: Make sure to let me know if you have a specific medical problem, injury or condition (such as being pregnant, heart problems, diabetes, etc.) As your trainer I have experience in these areas and will work with your doctor.
  • I am a good listener: As your trainer I will listen closely to what you say and make sure I understand your goals. My motto is tell me your fitness goals and I will listen to you and help you.
  • Attention: As your personal trainer I will always be focused only on you during your sessions to ensure proper form and technique.
  • Tracking your progress: As you personal trainer I will regularly assess your progress and change things if necessary.

  • Perhaps you have some sort of chronic health condition, injury or training goal (doing a triathlon, for example) as your personal trainer I will work with you and your health care provider or doctor to put together a safe, efficient program that will ensure that any special needs are met and help you to reach your fitness goals.
  • As your personal trainers I will help you to focus on results and stop wasting your time and energy doing inefficient workouts. As your personal trainer I will have a plan and will help you to get the best results in the least amount of time.
  • If you engage in any particular sport, as your personal trainer I will help you to improve your playing skill by showing you the latest cutting edge training techniques specific to your sport. As your personal trainer I will add skills training and functional core training into your sport program so you will improve not only your strength and endurance, but your agility and mental focus as well.
  • Perhaps you're an absolute newcomer to fitness, as your personal trainer I will be your fitness coach and guide you through everything you need to know to achieve your fitness goals. As your personal trainer I will introduce you to a simple, yet effective training program and progress you to higher levels of training as needed, then soon after beginning your training you will start to have the confidence, knowledge, and ability to decide what your future fitness plans are.
  • Suppose you're already doing training on your own and you're in good shape, but you've noticed you're not getting anywhere with your training anymore.. If you are doing the same routine day in and day out and want to add some variation to the mix, as your personal trainer I will provide you with a new an effective program that will break you through your training plateau. I can jump start, not only your motivation and passion for exercise, but your training plan as well.
  • Maybe you just want to learn all the basics to designing your own training program so you can do it alone without the use of a personal trainer, going for a few months with me is all you'll need, because as a personal trainer I will teach you the basics of putting together and progressing a fitness training program to get the best results.
  • As your personal trainer I will always watch your form, monitor your vital signs and provide the necessary feedback about your limits and strengths. Most people tend to not pay attention to some of the subtle signals our body gives us. We either push excessively through pain or give up too easy and too soon.     Before I decided to take that step towards a life of fitness, I was very nervous to take on a personal trainer to help me with my fitness goals. After the personal fitness evaluation and workout I learned of many postural deformities and muscular imbalances I had, and Christer showed me a numerous number of workout techniques I could do to correct my posture and muscle imbalance.
